Dental implants are a loved dental procedure by many patients at Stoker Family Dental. A dental implant gives patients the freedom to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental implants are one of the best ways to replace missing teeth because not only do they look and feel natural, they also stimulate the jaw bone to prevent bone loss. So, what are the benefits of dental implants?
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a tool that dentists use to restore missing teeth. Dr. Stoker at Stoker Family Dentistry could replace your tooth if it were knocked out, decayed, or cracked. A dental implant has three main parts: the post, abutment, and attachment. The post, a tough titanium metal that can withstand everyday wear and tear, replaces the tooth’s natural root and sits in the gums. The second part is the abutment which connects the metal post to the attachment. Lastly is the attachment. The attachment you choose is determined by the number and location of missing teeth. If you are only missing one tooth, Dr. Stoker will probably recommend a dental crown. If you are missing multiple teeth in a row, he may recommend a dental bridge. Finally, if you are missing more or an entire set of teeth, he may recommend dental implant-supported dentures.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
We place dental implants over time in a few different appointments. During the first appointment, Dr. Stoker will take imaging and impressions of your teeth. After he has examined your teeth, he will send the image to a lab where they will form the post and restoration option. When the post arrives at the office, Dr. Stoker will extract the remaining teeth if there are some. Then, he will place the post. For a few months, the post will sit in the gums. During this period, the gums and surrounding bone accept the implant post. Once the gums and bone have formed around the implant post, we will place the abutment and the attachment. After that, your implant is complete.
What are the Benefits?
Many patients at Stoker Family Dental love dental implants for their excellent benefits.
Look and Feel Natural. Implants are made of porcelain material, similar to surrounding natural teeth. Dr. Stoker crafts dental implants to blend in with your genuine smile. Many patients even say that dental implants feel like their natural teeth.
Support the Bone. When a tooth is knocked-out or extracted, nothing replaces it. You may experience bone loss. When something occupies the space where the tooth sits, the bone is stimulated and stays dense. If you do not replace the tooth with a metal post right away, you may experience decreased bone density. Decreased bone dentistry can make it harder to place a implant in the future. At Stoker Family Dentistry, we recommend that you replace your missing tooth right away to prevent bone loss.
No more Denture Glue. Now, you can have the advantages of a complete set of dentures without the worry of sticky denture glue. Stoker Family Dental places dental implants that attach to a set of dentures. The dentures are supported by four or more implants placed in the gums. Patients can choose fixed dentures or removable dentures.
Implants are an excellent solution to replace one or more missing teeth. An implant has several benefits, from the natural look and feel to maintaining bone density. For more information about dental implants or to schedule an appointment, call our office today.
